Fishing

Fishing -

Fishing remains a popular pastime in France - and France is famous for the size of its carp. Brittany has numerous lakes, rivers, streams and canals and is a popular destination for recreational fishing. We have had a number of groups who have enjoyed their fishing locally and rated the area very highly.

Fishing licences -

As with most countries, to fish in public waters you need a fishing licence. You can have a annual permit, a 7 day holiday permit or a 1 day permit. More details can be found here

Licences can be purchased online  or in local fishing shops (of which there are many locally) - a full list can be found here .

Where to fish?

We are in department 22 and there is a dedicated web site  for the area http://www.federation-peche22.com/ with a detailed map listing the main sites. In practical terms - Corlay (about 10 minutes from us is a good evening fishing lake, whilst the much larger Lac du Geurledan again ~10 minutes away) is the largest manmade lake in france and offers excellent land and boat based fishing. There are numerous rivers, canals (including the Nantes - Brest canal) and smaller lakes depending upon your fishing prefences.

Eating your fish!

You are permitted to keep a small number of the fish you catch, but its tightly regulated, as are minimum sizes - for example all pike under 50cm must be immediately returned, all Danube Salmon must be at least 70cm to keep!. The fishing rules can be found here

At the gites.

We offer covered storage for rods, a lockable drying area for fishing gear (with hanging space) and we have a spare fridge that can be used as a bait fridge - just let us know in advance and we can ensure it is ready for your arrival.
